Academic Advising Appointments

As a UT San Antonio Online student, your academic advisor will cheer you on and support you throughout your entire journey as a Roadrunner. Please only make appointments with your assigned academic advisor. Making an appointment with a different advisor may result in your appointment being cancelled or rescheduled. You can check who your academic advisor is in myUTSA or by emailing [email protected].

Online Academic Advisors meet with admitted undergraduate students to assist them with their educational journey at UT San Antonio Online.  The types of meetings below outline important information about the appointment process for UT San Antonio Online students.

New Student Orientation Appointment: This is designed for students who are new to UT San Antonio Online. If you have not yet completed your Online orientation, you must do so before you meet with your advisor. Please access orientation through your myUTSA Account.

Academic Advising Appointment: This is reserved for currently enrolled UT San Antonio Online Students.

Scheduling the incorrect appointment type may result in the appointment being canceled and rescheduled.

  • Don’t forget to meet with your assigned academic advisor to ensure you remain on track with your degree plan!
  • Appointments can be conducted via phone or Zoom. UT San Antonio Online Advisors are available Monday – Friday, from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
  • To schedule your appointment click “Schedule an appointment” under your advisor’s name above, or you may email your assigned academic advisor.
  • Appointments are not scheduled for the same day.
  • After you schedule an appointment, you will receive a confirmation e-mail from our scheduling system (Acuity) with your appointment information. Please review the information prior to your appointment.

Before you meet with your advisor, you’ll want to do a few things to prepare. Don’t worry, it’s as easy as 1, 2, 3!

  • What is your reason/purpose for scheduling this appointment? What are you hoping to achieve in this meeting?
  • Have your questions ready. Write down any questions you have for your advisor. Some options you may need to discuss: degree program tracks, graduation, career options, professional interests, etc.
  • Check your email for instructions – Once you’ve scheduled your appointment, review emails, texts, or other communications received from the Online Advising Office to ensure you have the correct time and date.

Before you start the meeting:

  • Find a quiet place and reduce any distractions so you and your advisor can hear each other. Remember to be present!
  • Have your DegreeWorks open at your computer.
  • If you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment, e-mail or call your Academic Advisor as soon as you know you are unable to make the appointment.
  • We ask that you contact us as far in advance as possible (at least 24 hours) so we can make the best effort to offer that appointment time to another student.
  • The advisor will attempt to call you and will allow 10 minutes before marking you as a No-Show.

Set up an appointment with your advisor to discuss your change of major.

If you change your program from a 100% online to an in-person program:

  • You will need to fill out the Change of Major Request Form, which will be given out by your academic advisor.
  • All online courses must be dropped.
  • Allow up to 5 business days for processing. Once your major is updated, a team member from UT San Antonio’s main campus will contact you to move forward with assigning a new advisor.
