The information below will help you prepare for your First Advising Appointment. Your advisors are your biggest cheerleaders, and they’re here to support and guide you, and to make your educational journey an enjoyable experience!

Get to know your advisor and share your interests and abilities. Don’t hesitate to ask questions!

 

Before Your Appointment

Complete the required items below and read through the additional information to prepare for your appointment.

Required:

Duo app logo with the instruction to set up the Duo Authentication app. Duo is used to access parts of your myUTSA Account that contain confidential financial information and to be able to register for classes.

Set up your Duo Authentication before your Academic Advising Appointment. Students who are not set up on Duo Authentication prior to their appointment may have to reschedule.

You will need to connect to and log into UTSA systems that can be difficult to navigate on a smart phone or tablet. It is best to use a desktop or laptop during your appointment.

During Your Advising Appointment

Please keep the following in mind to help you and your advisor make the most of your appointment time:

  • Check Your Email For Instructions | Review emails, texts, or other communications received from the Advising Office to ensure you have the correct time and date.

 

  • Reduce Background Noise | Find a quiet place and reduce any distractions so you and your advisor can hear each other.

 

  • Take Notes | Make sure your webcam and microphone are connected, and make sure you can connect to the Internet. Set your computer on a flat surface to make sure your camera is steady

 

  • Find a Well-lit Spot | Make sure there is good lighting so you and your advisor can see each other.
