Michael Newell, PhD

Michael Newell, PhD is a Professor of Instruction and Assistant Dean of Graduate and Undergraduate Studies at UT San Antonio. He has taught extensively in the areas of international security and security policies.

Newell’s research has appeared in several journals, including Security Dialogue, European Journal of International Relations, Studies in Conflict and Terrorism, Global Constitutionalism, and Millennium – Journal of International Studies. In recognition of his exceptional dedication and service, he received the University College Achievement Award in 2023.

He has a BA in International Relations and Diplomacy, Economics from The Ohio State University. He also has a MA in International Relations from the University of Chicago, as well as a MA and a PhD in Political Science from Syracuse University.
