Neil Debbage, Ph.D.

Neil Debbage, Ph.D. is an Associate Professor of Geography and Environmental Sustainability at UTSA. He teaches courses in weather and climate, physical geography, and geographic information systems (GIS). He also advises the UTSA chapter of Gamma Theta Upsilon (GTU), an international geographical honor society.

Dr. Debbage’s recent work investigates the impact of cool pavement on heat mitigation and evaluates the effectiveness of urban climate action plans. His research focuses on urban climatology, natural hazards, and sustainability. He applies GIS, statistical modeling, and numerical weather modeling to explore issues such as the urban heat island effect and flood vulnerability.

Dr. Debbage earned his B.A., M.S., and Ph.D. in Geography from the University of Georgia.
