UTSA Online is excited to share the stories of our online students to recognize their hard work and dedication! Our first student spotlight belongs to Angelica (Angie) Bocanegra. We spoke with her during her time at UTSA Online.
Meet Angie!
Angie is a wife and a mother of two children. She is a full-time employee at UT Health Rio Grande Valley and a UTSA Online alumnae who received her Bachelor of Arts in Multidisciplinary Studies in May 2023. While Angelica really enjoys working at her institution, she felt she wanted to go further in her education, which is why she decided to apply to UTSA Online.
“When transferring, I wanted to go to a major university. I looked at other ones and UTSA was just the right fit for me. They offered programs that I was interested in and [that] were appealing to me, and it was just the right decision. UTSA Online has really been an impactful experience, just because it has broadened my college experience to another level, because I had never attended a major university before.”
Angie emphasized that her professors “were super helpful and they understand that you are an online student. They know that you’re not the typical student that would be going to college, you’re working full time, you may be a mom or a dad.” That was the reason why Angie decided to enroll in an online program at UTSA: “It was just the right fit for me, the best decision I have ever made.”
When we asked Angie what she would tell a prospective student who is trying to decide if an online degree would be the right fit for them, she said:
“It’s never too late, even for someone like me…I thought I was at the end of my career. It’s never too late to broaden your horizons and to go online. The system is great, and I enjoy being an online student. If you are a self-driven person and you feel like you can be on task and you can be on a certain schedule, then that’s the right fit for you.”
